Boston's best hotel bars, for meetings, late work and a proper drink

Eight Boston hotels, one honest rating for each: how loud, how roomy and when to show up.

The best hotel bars in Boston for a business meeting are OAK Long Bar + Kitchen at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, The Street Bar at The Newbury and Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles Boston. All three open early and serve through the day. For a proper evening drink, go to The Dark Bar at Boston Harbor Hotel or Avery Bar at The Ritz-Carlton.

Most lists of the best hotel bars Boston has to offer rank cocktails and stop there. This one adds the questions that matter if you plan to talk business or open a laptop. How loud does it get? Where do you sit? Does the room work at 9 a.m. as well as 9 p.m.? We checked each hotel's own pages and recent coverage in October 2026. Hours shift, so call before a meeting that matters.

One caveat up front. None of these bars publish Wi-Fi details on the pages we read, and we have not measured decibels. Our notes on noise come from what each bar says about itself, such as DJ nights, live music and room size. Ask about Wi-Fi when you book.

The best bars in Back Bay, hotel edition

Four of the eight sit in Back Bay, which makes it the easiest place to book a hotel meeting on foot. Three of them are serving by 7 a.m.

OAK Long Bar + Kitchen, Fairmont Copley Plaza

This is the all-rounder. The hotel's page lists it open daily from 7 a.m. to midnight, with breakfast, lunch and dinner, and last call for drinks at 11:45 p.m. The menu leans New England, and the hotel points guests to the lobster roll and the clam chowder. The page says the room is built to see and be seen in, and that the bar has been voted the number one hotel bar. It does not say by whom or when.

Our read: the best choice for a long working day, because it serves from breakfast through to late evening. It also takes reservations through OpenTable. Valet parking is $30 with validation, so factor that in if a client is driving.

The Street Bar, The Newbury

The Street Bar sits at the foot of the hotel, across from the Public Garden. Time Out describes wood and leather, walls of books and a crackling fireplace, and calls it more low-key than the hotel's rooftop restaurant, Contessa. The hotel's own page adds that it runs afternoon tea with Major Food Group, and takes bookings on Resy. An October 2026 review found the room warm and lively without being loud at lunch.

Time Out lists a 6:30 a.m. opening and closing at 11 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday, 1 a.m. Thursday to Saturday. The hotel page lists no hours, so confirm.

Our read: a strong morning or lunch meeting, and a good first-date room later. Neither source mentions DJs or live music, which helps if you need to hear each other.

Long Bar & Terrace, Raffles Boston

Raffles sits on the 17th floor at 40 Trinity Place. Time Out calls the room mid-century modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows over the South End, and names the Singapore Sling as the house drink. It lists hours of 6:30 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to midnight on weekends, and says the room handles everything from business breakfasts to late-night drinks. Raffles adds a terrace over Back Bay and the skyline, and afternoon tea Thursday to Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

The same floor holds The Blind Duck, a speakeasy with jazz on Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight. Skip Thursday evenings if you need to talk.

Our read: the best view for a meeting, and an easy choice for a celebration. The Time Out hours date from March 2024, so check them.

Trifecta, Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street

If you want a hotel lobby bar in Boston that feels like a private lounge, this is it. The hotel's fact sheet describes a lobby lounge with 30 indoor seats, inventive cocktails, a large wine list and light food, open until late, with afternoon tea on weekends. It was still hosting events in 2026, including a Derby Day tea with bourbon cocktails. The hotel publishes no fixed hours.

Our read: thirty seats means a two-person meeting or a date, not a team of six. Call ahead on weekends, when tea fills the room. Four Seasons One Dalton Street is also one of the luxury hotels in Boston on Condé Nast Traveler's 2026 top 10 list, as is Raffles.

Downtown, Beacon Hill and the waterfront

Avery Bar, The Ritz-Carlton, Boston

Avery Bar is at 10 Avery Street. The Ritz-Carlton's page calls it an inviting downtown bar with craft cocktails and shareable plates, and lists the dress code as smart casual. Hours run 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. It is closed Sunday and Monday. Weekend afternoon tea is listed through mid-November.

Our read: an evening room, so it suits a post-work meeting or a date rather than a morning coffee. Reserve by phone or on OpenTable.

Liberty Bar and Alibi, The Liberty

The Liberty is the old Charles Street Jail, and the building is half the pitch. Liberty Bar fills the lobby rotunda and opens at noon. It is open until 11 p.m. most days and midnight on Thursday. Friday and Saturday bring DJs from 9 p.m., free entry, 21 and over, and a casual chic dress code from Thursday to Saturday. Lounge seating can be reserved on Resy, and groups can ask about corporate happy hours.

Alibi sits in the former drunk tank, with bluestone floors, brick walls and an outdoor patio. It opens at 4 p.m. and closes at 1 a.m. Monday to Wednesday, 2 a.m. Thursday to Saturday, and 11 p.m. on Sunday. A DJ plays Thursday to Saturday from 10 p.m.

Our read: a weekday afternoon at Liberty Bar can work for a casual catch-up. From Thursday to Saturday night, go for the party, not the conversation.

The Dark Bar, Boston Harbor Hotel

This is the bar formerly known as the Rowes Wharf Bar. The hotel renamed it in August 2024, adopting the nickname regulars already used, and Food & Wine put it on a 2024 list of the top 15 hotel bars in the United States. The room is dim, with plush leather seating, cherry tones and a faint smoked-rose scent. The drinks lean classic: punches, daisies, fizzes, sours, slings and juleps, with a deep list of Scotch and other spirits. One house order is The Late Meeting, a trio of mini classics.

It opens at 4 p.m. Hours are Sunday to Thursday until midnight and Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m. The hotel's menu lists its premium-spirit cocktails at roughly $20 to $27, plus a raw bar, oysters and a lobster roll. A pianist plays Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m.

Our read: the best room in the city for a quiet date. For a conversation that matters, arrive before 7 p.m. on piano nights.

Rooftop at The Envoy, Seaport

Seven stories up, the Envoy's rooftop has harbor and skyline views, fire pits, lounge seating and a bar pouring craft cocktails, microbrews and wine. Reservations run through the hotel's site. The page lists no hours, and other sources disagree, so check before you go. Older coverage calls it Lookout Rooftop, a name the hotel's page no longer uses.

Our read: a celebration spot, not a laptop spot. If a rooftop with a pool is the real goal, see our guide to Boston's rooftop pools.

One that is gone: Bristol Lounge

If you remember the Bristol Lounge at the Four Seasons Hotel on Boylston Street, it is no longer operating. WhatNow reported in March 2026 that A Street Hospitality, led by Jody Adams, Eric Papachristos and Jon Mendez, is building a restaurant in the space with its own Boylston Street entrance. The report gave no name or opening date.

How to pick a hotel bar for a business meeting

Where to have a business meeting in Boston comes down to a few checks you can run in five minutes.

  1. Book before noon. OAK, The Street Bar and Long Bar & Terrace all list early openings. Evening rooms fill up and get louder.
  2. Match the room to the group. Trifecta has 30 seats. OAK and the Liberty Bar handle more people.
  3. Check for noise nights. Liberty Bar and Alibi have DJs on weekends. The Dark Bar has piano Tuesday and Wednesday. The Blind Duck has jazz on Thursday.
  4. Reserve. The Street Bar and Liberty Bar use Resy. OAK uses OpenTable. Avery Bar takes either calls or OpenTable.
  5. Plan for parking. OAK's valet is $30 with validation. Ask the others.
  6. Ask about Wi-Fi and laptops. None of these bars list a policy. Ask when you book, and order something.
  7. Dress for the room. Avery Bar says smart casual, and Liberty Bar sets a casual chic code on Thursday to Saturday nights.

Questions people ask

What are the best hotel bars in Boston?

It depends on the job. For a meeting, OAK Long Bar + Kitchen, The Street Bar and Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles all open early and serve through the day. For an evening drink, try The Dark Bar at Boston Harbor Hotel or Avery Bar at The Ritz-Carlton. For a night with a DJ, try Liberty Bar and Alibi at The Liberty.

Which Boston hotel bar is best for a business meeting?

OAK Long Bar + Kitchen at the Fairmont Copley Plaza is the safest pick. It opens at 7 a.m. daily, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and takes reservations through OpenTable. The Street Bar at The Newbury and Long Bar & Terrace at Raffles also open early. Book a morning or lunch slot, before the evening crowd arrives.

Can you work on a laptop in a Boston hotel bar?

Sometimes, but policies vary. None of the bars in this guide publish a laptop or Wi-Fi rule on the pages we read. Daytime service makes OAK, The Street Bar and Raffles' Long Bar & Terrace the most realistic choices. Ask when you book, and buy something. Evening seats are for guests who are drinking.

What happened to the Rowes Wharf Bar in Boston?

It has a new name. Boston Harbor Hotel renamed the Rowes Wharf Bar as The Dark Bar in August 2024, taking the nickname regulars already used. It is still at 70 Rowes Wharf. It opens at 4 p.m. daily, with live piano on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, according to the hotel's website.

Is there a dress code at Boston hotel bars?

Mostly relaxed, with two stated exceptions. Avery Bar at The Ritz-Carlton lists smart casual. Liberty Bar at The Liberty asks for casual chic from Thursday to Saturday, which rules out athletic wear, hats and flip-flops. The other bars here publish no dress code, so a neat, business-casual outfit works everywhere.

Which Boston hotel bars have a view?

Long Bar & Terrace sits on the 17th floor of Raffles Boston, with a terrace facing the Back Bay and the skyline. Rooftop at The Envoy in the Seaport has harbor views, fire pits and a skyline bar. Both are better for a celebration or a first drink than for a laptop session.
